Saving Money by Growing Organically

Garden columnist and radio host Doug Oster will visit the Peters Township Public Library on Saturday, May 2 at 9:30 a.m. to discuss “Saving Money by Growing Organically.” Oster will teach tips and tricks for gardeners on a budget. His lecture will covers seed starting, composting and explain the simple things gardeners can do to save money and have their best gardens ever. Oster is co-author of Grow Organic : over 250 tips and ideas for growing flowers, veggies, lawns and more.

Oster is the co-host of KDKA radio’s Sunday morning program The Organic Gardeners and is the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Backyard Gardener. His column is distributed regionally by the Associated Press and nationally by Scripps Howard News Service. He also works as writer, producer and on air talent for WQED-TV's OnQ program contributing stories related to gardening. Doug fills the same role at WYEP-FM's Allegheny Front program. He appears on KDKA-TV's Pittsburgh Today during their gardening segments. Doug's "Grow Your Own" gardening/cooking column is syndicated nationally through the Los Angeles Times News Service. He is also founder of Cultivating Success, a garden program for adoptive and foster children.

National Library Week April 12 - 18

Time to celebrate the contributions of libraries in our communities nationwide– Stop in today and discover how worlds connect @ your library!

Ages: For kids and parents of all ages
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Come to the library for John Lege’s program featuring music, magic, educational facts, audience participation, and entertainment with ... LIVE TRAINED PARROTS!! All of these rescued birds have a story ... learn about their amazing transformations. Register in the Children's Department.

SUPER SMASH BROTHERS BRAWL TOURNAMENT
Ages: Grades 6 – 12
11:30 - 4:00 p.m. Check in is at 11:30 a.m. Game play will begin at 12:00 noon. You must check in before 12:00 noon in order to play. Join us in the Teen Reading Room for a special one-time Super Smash Brothers Brawl Tournament. Players should sign up in teams at the Teen Desk. Participation is capped at 32 players. Get ready to BRAWL!

PRIZE DRAWINGS
At 2:00 p.m. prizes will be drawn for Peters Township residents who have completed and submitted the library survey recently mailed to their homes.

PITTSBURGH YOUTH BALLET
3:00-3:45 p.m.
Young dancers from this internationally recognized school will perform for our enjoyment!

FINE FREE WEEK!
In recognition of National Library Week, all Washington and Greene County libraries have announced a Fine Free Week for National Library Week. Fine forgiveness will apply to normal overdue items and not lost or otherwise delinquent. We thank our library users for their loyal patronage throughout the year!

Easter Holiday Hours

The library will be closed on Friday, April 10 and Sunday, April 12 for the Easter holiday. The library will be open on Saturday, April 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Regular operating hours will resume on Monday, April 13 at 9:00 a.m.
